Happy Friday, everyone!

Just a question - I caught a big, jet black, sorta shiny cricket in my garage. Any thoughts on what type of cricket may not be good for a T to eat? It's much faster and seeks out hiding spots more than a "regular" cricket. Is a cricket a cricket?

Before anyone asks: B. smithii, 4", last fed 1 week ago, molted in April.

Do you have a pic by any chance. I'm thinking it might be a Jerusalem cricket (potato bug).

Not to good idea!
not all wild insects carry pesticides, but some do.
so i would say not a good idea.
and yes, in most ways Cricket is Cricket.

yes im well aware wild insects have a chance of carrying pesticides. i live on a 4 acre piece of land with no one within shouting distance and we dont realy use chemicals/pesticides in my household, theres no need to, so i feel its safe to assume if its living, its chemical free.

Great help! Thanks for posting these pics!!! The one I've caught is an adult, black cricket... practically a mirror image of your picture. Still okay to feed, though? :?

Thanks, again!!

AAGGHH! Good to know - this cricket may spend the night in a ZipLock... in the garage. Thanks for the heads up!

No pic, Mexico. If I could remember to grab my camera from work... *sigh* But, the pics that Marilyn put up are awesome. It's certainly an adult black cricket.

I raised black crickets for a while and they work great. Plus I like the look of them better than the regular crickets.

The only worry is the pesticide. If your neigbours are heavy raid users, or you live near some farms, you'd better keep buying feeders!!!

if you found them in your garage, or driveway, or a parking lot...i wouldn't risk it. but it is your call. i occasionally feed my arboreals moths that i catch. they love them.

Feeding wild caught insects is never a good idea IMO.

IF you were positive no pesticides were being used, i see no harm, though there are parasites and other things taht can be very harmful to your T. by feeding. your choice :)
