Hi. So, I'm actually NEW to the spider universe. Don't laugh at me now(LOL) but I actually have a fear of spiders. Always have. However, I've recently fell in love with the jumping spiders I have found outside my home. Lucas the Spider on YouTube is what got me interested into this cute little spiders but I still thought they were creepy until about a week ago. Now, I'm taking pictures of them. They are super tiny jumping spiders so I don't know what kind they are or if they are still babies. I did see a bold jumping spider one time in my greenhouse though but haven't seen anymore like that in a while. Anyway, my question is this: What can you give a beginner like myself for someone who wants a pet jumping spider from their yard? I have a setup for the jumping spider already but it needs holes drilled into it. I have sticks, leaves, paper towel, a garden fairy bridge, and fake ivy inside the diy terraium.

Here is my jumping spider terrarium. Other than moss and holes, is there anything else I need to add to it?

Looks like a good enclosure! Though maybe a bit crowded. Maybe take out a thing or two? 😁

Send me some photos, and I’ll try to identify the species and ages of the ones in your yard! Also adult size, etc. I’m assuming you want a younger one, to get the most out of their lifetime?

Ok. Thank you.
Habronattus sp., Habronattus sp., Habronattus sp., Adult male Phidippus audax, Pelegrina sp. respectively.

So for Habronattus, adult males are about 5mm and adult females 6mm. So pretty small.
Pelegrina are small as adults too.
So it would be hard to find young juveniles of those. Unless you’re up to the challenge of course!

I agree that it looks a bit too crowded, it could make it more difficult for the spider to see prey. All around not a bad enclosure, just needs more open space. The enclosure does not have to be huge.

Do you know what kind of jumping spider that I have and if it's male or female?
Okay so as for species, my guess would be Habronattus carolinensis, but keep in mind Habronattus are tricky. It seems this species is average in size for a Habronattus at about males 5mm females 6mm. Looking at that photo it appears to be a female, but I recommend reading this post for better identification:
