hello all! i’m about to be a new owner of a curly hair T. it’ll be about an inch long and i need some help figuring out what to feed it! i’ve had a curly hair T before, but got it when it was a sub-adult, so its main source was crickets. with my new 1 inch T i’m unsure what to feed it! i feel like crickets will be too big! i do want to use feeders that are easy to care for and are relatively cheap. the seller i’m getting my T from says that he feeds his smallet Ts flightless fruit flies, but the labour of taking care of them is a lot! any tips on what to feed my new T would be helpful! thank you :)

You can feed pre-killed prey as tarantula slings will scavenge for it. You can feed it a pre-killed cricket or chopped meal worms as they work great as well.

You can use isopods too. They are very easy to keep and breed. Can you post a picture of your enclosure? so we can give you some advices to how to improve it, if were necesary

I would buy a container of extra small meal worms or extra tiny crickets. Pre-kill and throw in. I would suggest others but with you only have (1) sling they would be a waste to buy.

For one small sling just go to any local sporting goods store/baitshop and get a container or two of mealworms.
They last forever in the fridge, they're cheap and they make for great sling feeders once they meet the scissors.

Cut 'em up.

If you get really small ones like I just got from my local pet shop you really don't even have to cut them. Just crush head and feed whole because they are that tiny.

FFF suck so bad. I opened my hydei container and they literally flew all over the place. Flightless my butt. Or my vendor sucks. Either way, for Ts... don't do it.

Cheapest is mealworms. I like pinhead B. laterals because I don't crush heads or rip legs off crickets. But they are not cheap because I have to order online.

B. lats are the best.
But they take up more space and more time than one sling.
There is always the future to think about, though.
Breed 'em.
They beat crickets by a mile.

They sure do. I would highly suggest not getting any kind of fruit fly. I just bought a container at reptile show and didn't even use them because everytime I opened the container many of them would get out and then I had a mess on my hands. They are a horrible feeder in my opinion.

A 1” curly hair will take down a large cricket no problem. Mine takes down roaches bigger than he is
I wouldn’t stress about it at all. I’m sure they’ll be plenty to freak out about down the road

i will for sure send a picture when i get it! the seller says the enclosure its in will be good for a couple months, but i do have an extra enclosure. a small one that i keep my crickets in (about 11x7x8 inches), so if re-housing is necessary ill most likely put him there and transfer my crickets! i appreciate the help :))

i’ve been doing some research on mealworms and do you need to care for them while in the fridge? thanks!

When I get a cup I put a pinch of cornmeal and a small piece of carrot in there. That's it.

Just to clarify, mine are for baby mantises, not tarantulas.
