There are some in the UK with nice stock but you'll have a heck of a time getting anything from them since so far all I've seen they won't ship to the U.S..:( . What species are you looking for in particular (besides mantichora ;) )?

There are lots of people selling those in the states.. Well not lots, but a few anyway :p . Which is weird now that I think about it, because the rhino beetles are all vegetarians right, and isn't there some law saying that we are technically not supposed to keep any exotic plant eating insects or something? I'm just saying, shouldn't it be easier to get the carnivorous ones (like mantichora) then?

Check out this site:
http://www.bugsdirectuk.com/beetles.html

They have mantichora (and a lot of other cool beetles), but they wont ship to the states:mad: I need to make friends with some people on the other side of the pond that can buy the critters and then ship them to me :D . Seriously, I know that this is technically an arachnid website, but the insect hobby needs to be just as big over here as it is there IMO, given the diversity of species and all. I guess we flubbed up our chances with that whole giant african land snail incident, eh?

you are going to need in country sources. if its international it doesnt matter how far, because its still illegal. I think there are ways of getting them there legally but the cost will outwiegh a lot i think. but i am not 100% on USA laws.

Thanks for your help guys.
You're somewhat limited to the rhinoceros beetle in the D.granti manual (various different native US rhinoceros beetles) as seen here: http://www.elytraandantenna.com
There are some places that sell native ones seasonally but most people who really keep them are hobbyists so you need to have something to trade. Any chance you could find some Megasoma sleeperi females or grubs (located only in extreme south California)?

Has anyone reared stag beetles? I read somewhere that most of the beetle's life is spent in the larval stage and that the adult stage is pretty short-lived. I was wondering if anyone could confirm or deny this remark. And just for fun, if you have some pictures, I'd be thrilled to see them! Thanks!

Yea that's why me and Peter_Parker are still thinking about getting beetles or not? sometimes the lifespam as an adults can be as short as 4 months and it would take m about a year to get to adults. About pics check this link.

Is it the same with all beetles, or just stag? Are rhinoceros beetles the same for instance? Thanks!

I'm not really sure but i know there's only a few species that have a long lifespam as adults. So as for me i think i'm gonna stick with scorpions & mantids.

It's the same for pretty much all beetles I believe, especially the big rhinos. They spend a year in the larval stage, then a couple month as adults. And the only people selling them I've seen sell them for really high prices (well, as far as chalcosoma go, anyway), so I, like Thiscordia, am reconsidering the whole beetle thing... except mantichora which can live for like 3 years... *sigh*.....:(

I'd still like to get some Tiger Beetles as well, probably the six-spotted or something similar. Too bad those other species are so short-lived.

It seems like people should be able to get the six spotted pretty easy since I hear they are common, but no one wants to sell any now..
