Beetle ID

A friend of mine has these in his yard (Long Island NY). He feared they may be the Asian Longhorned beetle Anoplophora glabripennis. For sure this is not what he has, but I was hoping to get a better ID on it. At least to the genus level.

doesnt appear to be a longhorn at all.
seems to be a stag specie

ahh the red stag beetle, no fear only eats dead wood, but if you keep it he will eat apples and oranges and maple syrup for you

Awesome find!

Definitely a stag beetle. Appears to be Lucanus capreolus.

I've only found one in my life, kept it as a pet for a few months, its favorite food was strawberry jelly.
