The beetles with the pale thorax with a black spot in the middle are Necrophila americana. There is also a Necrodes suranimensis in the photo as well.

pretty sure you could make some friends by collecting the Necrophila for trade :)

Nice find codykrr! I agree, that definitely looks like American Carrion Beetle, as AR-Tarantula stated. Great way to fertilize your garden too! :D

i don't know if there is any regulation around them, but you might be able to google or have someone else chime in

it's best to at least do a bit of checking, just in case they are like, endangered or something. i just remember seeing ppl say they would like to keep them before

oh, i have no idea. i just know that ppl who aren't really in the beetle hobby that i know of thought they were neat and said the "i'd like to keep those" kind of comments that neat looking or acting species generate

you might have someone more knowledgeable pop on after a while :)

Just wanted to chime in, yes - I've seen posts like that also.
I believe there are people who would be interested in keeping them.
I think there might be members on Insectgeeks who are into them?
Anyway, good luck.

there are about 32 species of Necrophila in the US iirc, and only 1 species is endangered. good luck trying to find (or ID!) that one species as i hear it is fairly rare and looks pretty similar to the others. i live out on the plains and can attract about 30 Necrophila in just a few hours. i snapped a few pics of them as they were burying a dead ground squirrel. the timeline was neat to see how the adults work together to methodically bury the dead animal by shifting dirt/sand. way cool

i might add, that this species is only found in nebraska and only ahand full of sighting have been reported since 1987.
