Bee lovers enlighten me. I cannot for the life of me fin my ID key.
This was captured in the Ocotillo, CA desert area. Quite an interesting bee. The lighting is terrible, but the eyes are a ketchup red with a bit of red on the legs.
I may be able to get some wing shots however I don't have a dedicated macro camera but may be able to crop a bit.
Also, while packing up the camping gear I noticed a nice sized male Velvet ant (mutilidae) flying about and thought, hmmmm there must be some big females running around. Sure enough one was scurrying about. Here is the male and female of this species. The female is about an inch long and makes an AWESOME squeaking noise while it runs for its life on my bed.
If you notice, the males are winged while females are not. Cool guys.
