Nice species! Do you know if you have male / female pair of these? If so, best of luck in reproducing them!

I think I already know the answer(s) to this question, but I'll ask anyway; why is this an awful choice for a pet?

They get large. Much larger than the current hobby books (Giant Lizards II) states. They need a large cage with room to dig (mine have burrows longer than 3 feet deep), a large pool (the 50 gallon ponds seem a bit small), and climbing areas. They are a very shy species that does not seem to take well to interaction. My larger male will charge me from his cage on a regular basis.

Basically they're care is difficult and they are not a "friendly" species.

I keep meaning to get some full cage shots. Just keep forgetting.

That certainly is a beautiful animal, but the care does sound difficult if you don't have the space or time to dedicate to them. I'm sure it's worth it though, if you can manage?
