Well she wasn't technically a reptile but my first tarantula died while I was on vacation. I had her for five years (she was very old when I got her). It is very difficult to lose an animal whether it be beardie, tarantula, dog, or cat. It takes a little time to get over. Don't expect for it to happen over night. You'll be thinking about him through the day for a while and it will make you sad but eventually the things you think about will be the moments when he made you laugh or did something cute.

For my loss, I had made little boxes for the animals I was very attached to. I put pictures and in the case of the dogs personal items such as leashes and collars. I put locks on them and stored them in a place like under the bed or in the closet and out of my line of sight. When feeling nostalgic, I pull them out and start looking at all the things I had. The artistic part of making the boxes helped me heal a little and something similar (or completely different) might work for you but only you know what that will be.
