substrate for bearded dragons...can i use Astroturf as the substrate for mine? is it safe? will it cause ne problems? thank you

This should be in the not so spineless wonders portion of the forum

I would personally use sand for a beardie, but I don't see any forseeable problems with astroturf as long as you keep it clean.

I'd still use sand, though

i know i just made one there i realized it should be there haha...oops but ya why sand and how big does your lizard have to be.. to be put in sand?

IMO sand is hard to keep clean and can cause impaction with smaller dragons (and larger ones too if it eats a lot of it). I like Duck brand non stick shelf liner that you can buy at Wally World for about $4. You can pick the whole thing up in one go and rinse it off and resuse it. You can get nearly any color you want.

To answer your question: Astro turf would work though if you happen to have it and don't want to go buy something else.

what exactly is the duck brand non stick shelf liter and does it work well? and about the rabbit pellets? wouldnt he try to eat it?

i wouldn't use astroturf, it's too rough on their underbelly.

on occation, they do grab a pellet along with a cricket, and loud crunching ensues. They're compressed alfalfa, so do no harm..
