Hi,

I'm looking at geting a bearded dragon in the next few weeks, and i've been doing plenty of research before getting one. I know that bearded dragon diets involve a fair amount of time and effort to get right if you are to keep them healthy, and i'm happy with that. My question is that i have seen for sale pre-packaged pellet food made specifically for bearded dragons that claim to be a complete diet, not needing any other food sources. Are these ok to use as the sole food source? I have not seen any of the care sheets on the internet mentioning these pellets as food source, so i'm a bit sceptical as to how to they would be as the sole food source. Has anyone had any experience with these, and can tell me how good the are? Thanks in advance.

Dan.

From my experience with bearded dragons and other beardy keepers I know, I would not suggest using these pelleted diets. Although they have added vitamins and such in them, I don't believe that they are the heathiest diet for any lizard. Give your beardy fresh greens and veggies and a little fruit for a treat and supplement it with calcium and vitamins like Rep-Cal Herptivite and Rep-Cal calcium with vitamin d3 and it should be very healthy. Check out the book "The Bearded Dragon Manual" by Philippe de Vosjoli, Robert Mailloux, Susan Donoghue & Jerry Cole. It covers a lot and is really easy to understand.
