Okay, I'm thinking about getting a bearded dragon. I've researched a bit and think I have an idea on care and how big an enclosure I need. I think 55 gallon should be good for an adult but will a screen enclosure be okay? I'm thinking something like a custom chameleon cage. Anyone with experience or just ideas please help me. Thanks for any advice.

I would not use a screen enclosure, dragons need high temps., and glass tanks are a better choice. 55 gal is the smallest, I would use , bigger is better. Your temps., should range from aprox. 92 on one side to about 105 on the other. they need this range to properly digest there food.

One of my friends has a bearded dragon enclosure that's basically a wooden box four feet on a side and about two feet high. they furnished it with rocks and sand and things and put a screen top (a screen out of a window) over it and heated appropriately

Only downside to that is the wood precludes the use of undertank heaters

Undertank heaters are no good for beardies anyway. Mine are in a 4.5' x 3' x 2' vivarium, heated with a spot bulb/UVB light.
