bearded dragon and fake plants?

hi i used to have fake plants in my bearded dragon tank and he kept trying to eat them and was worried he would chew bits off and actually swallow it. does anyone else put fake plants in? coz the tank looks quite dull now coz most of my other tanks have real plant in them
