Hi, I’m new to the hobby and currently had a setup for a curly hair tarantula ready, but before I committed to that option I decided to look at true spider options, out of curiosity... and found out about black velvet spiders! there’s not a lot of info on the web, but it seems to be similar to the general care I’ve learned about. unfortunately, there’s nothing for sale in the US that I know of. Does anyone had experience with acquiring and caring for them?

For care you can ask @basin79. In terms of US availability they're here, but sort of scattered about. Since it takes a while for them to mature it'll be a bit before CB slings are offered up. Otherwise you can keep an eye out for imports that might have some. Welcome to Arachnoboards!

Thank you so much! I’ve watched his videos on them, and I’ll keep a lookout for these guys. Last question: do you have any recommended sites I should keep an eye on? Thanks so much for your help:)

Gandanameno sp are really easy to keep. As you'll have seen. A little bit of bone dry exo earth or similar and a good thick layer of bone dry moss. It's up to you whether you want to add in some cork bark. They'll happily make their home within the moss.

They aren't available very often here in the UK. In the US and Canada they are even more scarce.

I will type they are well worth waiting for though.

If you’re on Facebook, I can tell you that the “Arachnids: Classifieds” group has a lot of true spider breeders. I believe I saw them for sale there at one point, possibly other Eresids as well. I’m also searching for these guys so I’m right there with you!
