My local pet store has a bannana spider for sale $10.00. They got it from a food warehouse and they found it in a case of bananas. Anyone keep these? It is more crab like as far as it's leggs go. I here they a dangerous.

Hi,

the term "banana spider" is used for many different kind of spiders.

Only one genus is known to be a possible danger to human beings, Phoneutria.

You can find pics of these spiders in a thread named "Look at those little guys" or something like that. While they can be kept as pets, i´d strongly advise you to leave your hands off it, if you haven´t got much experience with other hunting-spiders.

If it should happen to be an other genus than Phoneutria, don´t be scared, they´re harmless.

Greetings,

Stefan

$10.00 seems pretty low for a banana spider, especially a highly venomous one (you'd think they'd charge at least $20.00 for it). Then again, pet shops don't exactly have the best track record of labeling species correctly... I would see if it looks like any of the species in previous posts first, just to be safe.
