I was given a gift today by a friend who took this out of her junk pile, the gecko you see here. For some reason the coloration didn't come out too well and it looks more blue/green than it really is. Is there a way to determine sex and age?

I'm a tarantula person but lately have been wanting to expand my attentions to include reptiles and I hate buying from lps. Seems this was providence. Have thought of letting it go back to the wild. It sure is tempting to keep though. Total cuteness IMHO. I'll be feeding it small dubia nymphs and crickets.

Any thoughts?

coleonyx are super easy to keep and quite amusing to watch hunt. im sure youve notices it will hunt with the tail wagging over its head in excitement. if you want to keep it, go ahead. you will do great with it.

Are you sure? I thought that eublapharid geckos had pre-anal pores, although I will admit the banded gecko is not one that I have personally worked with.

They have both preanal pores and hemipenal buldges in addition males have fleshy spurs on the sides of the hemipenal buldges. you have a nice female Coleonyx varigatus varigatus (by the looks of it). very easy to keep and breed. good luck with her!
