The ball pythons are on sale at my petco and yes this petco takes good care of their snakes not all are bad. but anyway i'm going to maybe use a rubbermaid bin to keep it in since these hold heat and humidity better than tanks do. so my question is what can i use to lock these bins well? Ball pythons are good escape artist (at least some of the ones i had) so this one I want to actually keep lol. can i use those things rock climbers use? with the hooks on both ends? i have no idea what they are called?

any more ideas are welcome i dont want to use bricks or anything heavy if i can avoid it but if need be i will and once it gets bigger ill move it to a regular size tank. but in my opinion the smaller the space the better a ball python will do at least until it reaches a bigger size close to an adult.

a lot of people use bungee cords to keep their lids shut. I use a 15 qt rubbermaid tub from walmart for my yearling, it has green clips that hold the lid on. For any larger size tub, I'd use a bungee cord in the middle of the tub, but the clips work pretty well for the 15 quart or smaller tubs. The BPs at petco are generally pretty young, so a 15 qt tub should be plenty big (ball pythons like small spaces, and my 500 gram girl still has plenty of room in her tub).

Are they wild-caught/captive-hatched? Although I wouldn't trust any employee to know this/not lie about it (and I have never, EVER heard of a Petco that bothered getting captive-bred ball pythons. They can get the others in bulk for pennies). If they are WC or CH, it doesn't matter how well the store takes care of them, you probably still don't want one. Doubly so if they still house the pythons in groups.

Private breeders and dealers will be flooded with baby ball pythons until the end of summer, and even with shipping most of those will be equal to or less cost than the Petco snakes.

I would guess they are on sale because they just got a fresh shipment of WC/CH babies and want to get rid of them before the lack of eating/parasites/illnesses become apparent.

that's a good point. most ball pythons from petco and petsmart are captive hatched (meaning that gravid mommas were wild caught, then released after laying their eggs), and over-priced. My girl was captive bred, and I only paid $20 for her last year as a hatchling. Look at private breeders, and even specialized reptile stores.

I already have it but where online can I get another one for $20 dollars not including shipping?

http://www.thepaintedpython.com/available_ball_pythons_for_sale.html This place will be selling normal males for $30 in June. Granted this is only after about thirty seconds on Google and I haven't looked up breeder reviews to see if this place is any good, but they're out there.

I don't know about $20, 25-30 is the cheapest I've ever seen. Mine was $45, but the seller had huge amounts of good reviews so I considered it a bargain. The snake remains healthy and fat to this day.

What do you mean "where can I get another one," though? How many snakes do you plan to own? {D (I still wish you hadn't bought from the Petco, but what's done is done. You should get a fecal done at the vet ASAP to check for internal parasites, so it can be treated quickly if it needs to be. )

Reptile shows regularly have normal ball pythons for $20-$25, especially in mid to late summer in my experience.

halfway, so I have the ball python in the 15 qt tub, but what do I use for a water dish that will actually fit in there and the snake can fit his whole body in?

I use a dog food bowl from walmart, its like a plastic crock... Its like, 7-8 inches diameter, IIRC. I think it was around $4.
I also use plastic cereal bowls from walmart for hides. I only use one hide, since my BP moves it around to wherever she wants it. I bought a pack of 4 for $1, and just cut a hole in the side. Works great.

Walmart is my friend when it comes to shopping for snake stuff.
