My female pastel ball python could smell the rat I was thawing, and when I took her out of her cage to put her in her feeding tub, she tagged me. Yes, I'd washed my hands, but she was really excited anyway, so oh well.

Anyway, one of her teeth lodged in my knuckle and I pulled it out and put it under the microscope.

Pretty neat, huh? The blood is mine, of course, not the snake's. heh

Nah, it wasn't painful at all. Just two little scrapes. I've endured far worse. ;)

Ouch Kat! That's a very long tooth for a constrictor isn't it?

Glad you're OK. Now, start taking showers more often and your snake won't think you're prey. ;) :D

hahaha hey now!

Now that you mention it, I might've smelled a bit like horse - I went riding this morning. lol

i know the feeling. my carpet python got me on the tip of my mddle finger a while back and snaped off a tooth and i pulled it out and washed it but still got a nasty staph infection and a few days later i squeezed it and another tooth poped out. it was pretty nasty

Hows the snake doing? ;) Cool pic! You have to love a good feeding response.

Oh, she's a happy snake. She ate her rat, and now she's basking in her warm spot. heh

It really is nice to have 3 ball pythons that all eat like champs. :)

I'd keep a close eye on her, I've always heard that horrible infections can occur in the socket when a snake's tooth gets ripped out.

I think that's a possibility with any creature. The mouth area, once opened, is very prone to infection.

Anyway, awesome photo. I wish I had a microscope lying around my house. I think by the end of a week, I would have observed every single object within 5 miles under it. =p

True. I've just mostly heard it in the context of snakes in captivity, where at every turn you're reminded not to yank your hand back if you get bitten due to the risk of throwing the snake/ripping out a tooth and causing an infection in you and/or the snake.

While infections are always possible, snakes lose teeth frequently and very easily. They are bound to lose a few almost every time they grab prey, especially if it's live prey and struggles.

I always watch my snakes closely, but considering that fact, I don't worry too much about an infection.

Lots of times handlers who are bitten by snakes will get infections because of the bacteria that is naturally in a snake's mouth. The bite that I got is very shallow, and this morning, I can't even find it. heh

I remember a Ball Python I used to own awhile back. I was giving her the weekly checkup for mites and such. She lashed out and tagged me on the lip. Nice razor cut, but it vanished in a day. Did sting a little though :wall:
