Ball Python Question

My son's Ball Python woke him up during the night with very loud hissing sound. He immediately checked on her to see she had just vomited a lot of fluid. She also shed during the night which was a good full shed all intact. She seems ok today, just wondering what may had been the cause for her to vomit. Any ideas? She is in a 40 gallon tank with just newspaper and a water dish. She is less than a year old.

Are you sure it was vomit and if so did it smell awful?

Royals are very good at breaking wind very noisily especially during the night. They also tend to poo and wee as they shed often inside the shed skin.

It was watery fluid with a tinge of color here and there. She ate a week and a half ago. He held off on feeding this week due to her showing that she would shed in a few days. The fluid looked as if it had been projectiled the length of the tank.

The noise she made had to be very loud to wake my son up, he is a hard sleeper. He knew it was her making the noise but still hearing it for the first time definitely got his attention.

I'm not familiar with the breaking wind or why it is done.

In that case I'm afraid I can't help. It obviously wasn't a regurge as that really smells dreadful.

Their "farts" are very loud, I've often been woken by them. They do it for the same reason humans do and it usually precedes a poo.

I wasn't thinking along those lines, obviously ..lol. I hadn't heard breaking wind as described in a long time. Thanks for trying to help. :)

I did a search on the net and found on another forum where a ball python did the same thing that my son's did except their's did it while shedding. It did it with two sheds. No one seemed to have any answers as to why on that thread either. I checked with my son again if she had bowel movement...he said no and he didn't think she was passing gas. She had a bowel movement several days ago.

Either posting a pic or even a valid exotic vet's analyses would probably helpful. I don't think anyone can provide help without being able to see it.

On another note, I can attest to how loud even a 3 ft BP will fart. First time I heard it, I thought she had broke something in the tank only to realize it was just gas on closer inspection. Boy, and I thought my dad was a noisy farter...

Thanks for the reply. I called a local breeder of pythons who I get feeder rats from. He said she most likely drank a lot of water and had an air pocket within. We are to wait a week before feeding her because her esophagus will be sore. This will give it time to heal.
