Hi, Im just a beginner and now have 8 Ts.
I spend a lot of time in AB and saw many of us experienced bad molts.
Though I have yet such thing, I am kinda concern.
Do you think bad molt happens always ? Any reasons in common ? Precaution ? Just interested to know, thanks.

Most of the time bad molts are from lack of internal hydration. SOMETIMES they will pick weird places to try and molt and will get themselves into trouble but I'd say a majority are from the hydration factor and every now and then it can be a conditional issue inside the tank. So supply a water dish that stays full and you should be just fine. I have a ton of Ts and rarely have molting issues.

A few bad molts here from spiderlings but that's really it.

Though I guess with a 1cm sling there things that can go wrong are much greater. Some of my slings never made it out of a molt, some did, and died shortly after.

It just bad when molt goes bad, the T comes out weird or missing something important, or it just plain dies during the procedure, especially if it's someones female that was about to hit her big molt into adulthood. That would be really horrible.

How do we know if a T has internal hydration problem ?

If you provide a water source that they can easily access you won't have much to worry about.

The worst bad molt i've personally seen was an A anax who lost a toe in a molt. The chitin peeled back to the second joint so the two segments on R1 leg were hosed. This t became very temperamental after this molt and remained that way until molting again only 2 months later to fix the problem. This was a 4" specimen so i would have expected those molts to be more like a year apart.
