"Today, I brought in an orange spider."
"That's glorious, David, now lets-"
"Here it is." He's holding it and the whole class screams really loudly.

sounds like show and tell third grade :D only it wasn't a P. murinus, but rather a B. smithi. most of the girls and half of the boys screamed. me.."oooooooo, lemmie see, can I hold it? where can I get one" :D after that it only took me eleven years to get my first T.

Doesn't 'OBT' sometimes stand for 'Orange Bitey Thing'?

I mean, if your kid can handle it, great. I'm not about to knock anybody else's parenting. But those things have a reputation for being downright mean. And fast.

My G. rosea scares the crap out of me. I work on her cage with barbecue tongs and macgill forceps.

My kid isnt born yet. There would be no handling of something like that till they are about 15 or 16 or so.

My friend knows how much I love spiders and had my eye on the obt that came in. Gave it to us during our baby shower saying it would be our baby's first tarantula. =P

Ah. The more you know.

Still. I saw one of those things going full-on nuts one day every time anybody walked past it. I wanted to nuke the site from orbit. Just to be sure.
