Hey guys! Sorry I've been gone so long, I've been really busy... But I couldn't not post this! I was checking on the Velvet Worms (E. barbadensis) earlier and came across a new little baby Onychophoran crawling around one of the elders! This is the first birth as far as I am aware, although I didn't search for others. I have never seen such a cute little panarthropod
I must say I am overjoyed as it as been a dream of mine to see these reproduce in captivity ever since I was a young boy!
I will post more over the next few weeks, an with better pics hopefully

Wonderful! I hope the little one thrives, and that you find some siblings as well.

If I could ask a few follow up questions - does the spermatophore really 'dissolve' (for lack of better word) into the female? What does that look like and how long does it take? Does the male put the spermatophore on the female directly or does he leave it for her on the substrate - is there some courtship beforehand? Onycophore reproduction definitely blows my mind. I've been learning about it in my Invertebrate Biology course, its hard to believe. I'm sorry if I'm being obnoxious with the questions :angelic:

Not all onychophora reproduce that way and do have other forms of copulation. With this species I have not witnessed what that method is as of yet.

I'm still learning myself. :)
