This shop is just a couple minutes from me. Hopefully they will do what's in the best interest of the bird. Poor thing. :(

My local pet store had an Grey Parrot once. Pretty cool bird. The manager taught it a lot of stuff.

Theres also a grey parrot named Alex who lives at some lab, where it learned enough to become the smartest parrot in the world. It knows somethin like 1000 different phrases, colors and other stuff. It can also do simple math. Kinda cool.

Thats to bad.
I hope the person knows what its about, and can feed it.

I have an African Grey and she's the greatest. She talks all the time. She's talking right now. Says about 250 words. When I'm going to bed, and turning out the lights, she says "night, love you."
I bought her when she was about 1 week old. I left her at the shop till she was down to, two hand feedings a day.

Her name is Zhazu.. :D

Not a very good picture, but here is Zhazu

Haha! 250 words? thats awesome. I want one now, but i dont want parrot droppings everywhere. I wouldnt want it in a cage because I think thats cruel. Id probably clip it and keep it on a perch.

manville,
She was $800.00, plus $400.00 for her cage, which she loves. Its her nest.

scorpio,
She thinks she's part of the family flock, and she is.
She doesn't miss flying cause she never has, she never learned. She's known me since she was 1 week old, so as far as she concerned, I'm her mate.
She can make every sound that happens in the house. She sounds like each of us. Barks like both of my dogs. Does the house alarm. Says bye-bye whenever someone leaves the front door. Talks like shes on the phone.
Its crazy, shes so cool.

Alex is at the U of A in Tucson.
He has a full time keeper and is the smartest Grey in the world.
He has a computer programed just for him, and uses it.
They can put a green firetruck in front of him and ask him what it is and he'll say green firetruck, then change it to a red boat, and he knows.
They say Greys have the IQ of a five year old child.
You can do a search on greys and find Alex. Check him out.

Anyway, if you want a very smart pet and can spend a bunch of money on it. Get a baby African Grey...:D ;) :)

Maybe later i'll try a bird. They sound soooooo cool. I guess id get it a big cage that had at least 4 feet of clearance on all sides.

It just kills me to see the macaws and parrots at exotic pet stores in these tiny little cages. During the day they should be on perches.

and while were on birds...an exotic pet store i was at had two toucans for sale. they were so cool looking. But I got a snake instead, because they were $1200 or so cheaper.

ERNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic!!!!!!!!
Check out MY baby, he just turned eight...I adopted him from rescue about two months ago. He has no feet, but he does have about a two hundred word vocabulary..he will never be an Alex, but he is most definetly perfect in my eyes.
He is special needs-but I dont mind the extra work involved. I cant ever just adopt something normal, i guess. THis one was abused and needed me. Right now we are working on changing some things in his vocabulary that reflect the sad life he used to have.

Good looking Grey Kim.
Mine is doing a little plucking on her breast as you can see in the pic.

What happened to his feet? Was he caged with a bigger bird?

Whats his name?

his name is Dino

His toes were bit off by his parent-birds.

He was abused by at least one of his former five owners. He spent the past six months before I got him NEVER let out of his cage, not even once. And some things that were said to him (he IS a taperecorder) were very terrible..and one of the things he will say is "lock you back in the closet".

Im watching him, though...he has a small area under his wing that looks like he may be plucking..hope not..He uses his wings and his beak to get around, so it just may be wear-and tear.
p.s.
Is yours a Congo or Timneh? She looks smaller than Dino, but it may just be the picture. But, she IS beautiful!

She's a Congo.
They are known pretty much as plucker. There so smart, that if you don't spend enough time on them, they get bored and pluck.:(

yep..

I have so many toys for Dino. It has been a real challenge to modify things so that he can enjoy them and not lose them right away (has nothing but his beak to hold onto things with)..but he loves to play ball.
I give him a whiffle ball and he throws it to me, I hand it back...over and over again...and if I miss, he laughs at me. He will even "dribble" the ball by bouncing his head up n down, tapping the ball on his perch..he fakes left and right too...then whips the ball.

I bought him an ELmo phone and zip tied it to the side of his cage...so now, I get to hear several times a day "Thanks for calling" and various other character noises.

He LOVES strawberries, and carrots, etc. I changed his diet from all sunflower seeds and bologna (he got that before me) to try and give him a huge variety.
For everything he wants though, he will say "Want some water?" even if he wants a bite of a sandwich...took me about a day and a half to figure that out, I kept checking his water dish. LOL.

I'm glad he has a great home now though!

You know these guys can live to be 60 yrs. old?
I love the way they twist their head and look you in the eye, when your teaching them new words. Like your the only thing in the world to them.:)

yup, but you wanna know somethin?

My kids got into an argument about who would get to own Dino after I was dead...and they were seriously arguing..I told them to knock it off, it was making me feel totally unwanted...I mean, they could at least wait until I was on deaths' doorstep before they started fighting over my possessions.

I love the way they look at you when they are listening..and their pupils get real small....totally zoned on what you are saying. :)
