I recently got a baby jumping spider. He’s smaller than I expected and I’m trying to figure out the best feeders. I’m in a small apartment so I’d like to avoid fruit flies. Are baby crickets a good alternative?

Flightless fruit flies. You can get them from pet stores or online. Drosophila melanogaster are good for younger slings and drosophila Hydei are good for older slings because they are bigger. Crickets are also so much worse in an apartment situation because if they escape.

That dont look like any baby jumper i know. Even bold jumping spider babies are about a fraction of that size. I would say that flightless fruit flies are a decent option, and pinhead crickets are good too if you have the correct equipment. You shouldnt worry too much about them escaping because apartment complexes usually use pesticides or other insect killers on the carpet. Try making a fruit fly colony inside a small test tube. Whenever you need fruit flies, you can easily access the container and not worry about any flies escaping while you pour them in.

Crickets would be fine, small mealworms or small hornworms, live or chopped up. I’ve found jumpers to be much more fragile than tarantulas. Good luck

Do jumpers take dead prey? Whenever I try dead prey they ignore it or get scared by it.

Briii,

Check out Rainbow mealworms. They offer mini meal worms for small slings.
We offer these to our slings along the Hydei & Drosophila melanogaster flies.
Hope this helps.
