So this is a tiny tan jumping spider I believe and it has the fattest belly I’ve ever seen and I’m worried about it because I feel like if it eats anymore, it might pop. I caught it and hopes to help it from its own demise. it was just hopping along my desk. Where actually keep my other spiders and at first, I didn’t realize it was, a jumping spider because of how round its belly is and how abnormal it looked, especially for the tan jumper because of how flat the typically are . Anybody has any advice? besides maybe making sure he doesn’t eat for a couple of days and then releasing him or her lol

It’s not going to ever eat so much that it ruptures itself. Tarantulas get plump storing nutrients needed to molt. I think your sentiment is great but it’s not going to slim down in until it molts so you can just release it !

Ssooo cute!!!! Platycryptus undatus are a smaller species so she might be a MF and probably gravid🥰 if u can get a pic of her underside or look u will see her epigynum. If she’s a MF it will look like a shiny belly button. Here’s some pics I googled real fast so u know what to look for!

Thank you so much!! It’s super duper cute if only you could see it hop 🥰 I didn’t know it could be that tiny. I thought it was a baby. Still not 100% sure but I think since I know now that it’s safe even if he or she continues to eat lol that he or she won’t pop then I will release them outside lol 😂 no idea how she or he got to my desk maybe the window.

The hops are the best!!! I’ve actually raised up baby jumpers I LOVE them😂 yeah I think most times ppl picture a big ol bold or regal but there are so many fascinating Salticidae! The colors and size differences are amazing plus they are and think differently than most spiders so I’m always fascinated!! She won’t pop so don’t worry!! I would release her somewhere close in your yard so when she has babies u will see them💕 have u seen her groom her face yet or suck on her toes god so cute!!

It could be an adult of a smaller species. Who knows? But they won’t eat. themselves to death.

Yeah spiders can get quite chunky, especially ones that are well fed and gravid. But yes no problem you are welcome!

That kind of sized abdomen, in all my wild caughts, resulted in eggs. If your plan was to release it, the sooner the better.
