My ex was on his way to SLC and saw a mommy duck on the side of the freeway squashed!! There were babies running all over the place. He pulled off the next exit, came back around and by the time he got back to where they were only 3 babies were alive. :(
He knows what a big whimp I am for animals so I guess I get to take care of them for a while.
We tried to see if our duck (who is setting) would take them but she's scared of them!! We thought one might die it was so stressed out. It was just laying down not moving. But we got it to eat and drink and now (the next day) Its up and running allover and eating more than the other two!

awwwwwww arent they CUTE!!!

cute, we had ducks and chickens way back, and when one acted sickly we brought it into the house and into a box by the stove... and as usual our mini pincher played nursemaid. hopped into the box to keep it warm.

We've been feeding them laying mash (wet) We went and got some chick start just to be safe. They also go outside with our big duck a couple of times a day and shes been showing them how to find worms and such. Shes getting used to them, not as freaked out about it all anymore. They are really fun!! :)

I have always wanted native ducks! What are you going to do with them, from the looks of it they are going to be hanging out with your duck for the rest of their lives.

When they are big enough we will put them outside with our big duck. If they eventually fly away.. I guess thats ok. If they stay, then my back yard will have even more POOP in it than it already does! :)
I adore ducks. They have the cutest personalities and are so satisfying to hug and squish and carry around hehe.

A couple things I had to learn the hard way . . .

Do NOT feed them chicken/laying mash.
There is one called game-bird or your shop might even have a "duck" mash.
Especially do not feed them the medicated chick mash, trying to kill . . . .

Those wild babies are FULL of coccidea . . .
Either take them to a vet, or just let them go.

If you have any other livestock/fowl, keep those babies AWAY!

I found some baby ducks last year, and tossed them right in with my others and the chickens . . . :embarrassed:
