This poor little one is the sole survivor of a bad clutch of 30 eggs. Only one other hatched in the incubator, and that one died. This one is having a tough time, but is now 2 weeks old. Don't know if it will make it, but we are doing all we can!

Good luck with the little guy :)

His head looks a little weird to me, but I've never seen a baby beardie either. I'm just too used to seeing beardies with all the "frills".

Any idea why the rest of the eggs went bad?

Well, the male that we borrowed for the mating had never been successful. He had lived with another female and attempted mating all the time but was never able to fertilize. We thought we'd try him with our big female, and he sure made the attempt, but couldn't figure out how to actually, physically "hook up" if you know what I mean.
So, my wife wathces them for two days, and finally, just at the right moment, reaches into the tank and helps him twist her around. There was only a hook up for a second. I was positive she wasn't gravid, and when she layed eggs I just "knew" they were infertile. We didn't give up on the clutch, even after they were dying off.

BTW...this one was 2 weeks premature. The one that hatched directly AFTER this one was still attached to the yolk and it died.

i wish you all the luck . in july i bought 3 baby beardies that were 3 month old and got beat-up on by their siblings (missing toes, and tips of tails gone, one was missing just about the whole foot). nobody wanted them, and i wanted a beardie, so i bought the three. one died but the rest is doing okay. they like waxworms as a snack, but normaly chase crix or stalk mealworms

dianne

and he looks perfectly normal to me

I should note that I've never seen a baby beardie that was this young. That's why I made the head comment. I'm not saying there's anything abnormal about it, it's just surprising to me.

Don't mind my comments today, it's been a really stressful last week/last semster of classes and I haven't had enough sleep.

didn't mean to sound rude or attack...sorry, yeah they do miss the "spikes" when real little, mine finally got some ( and i bought them in july and was told they were 3 months old, that would make them ~7 or 8 months old)

Looks fairly healthy, too bad about the rest but I think you will have luck with this one.

Thanks for the notes, all. I hope it's healthy....I'm a bit worried because we have yet to see it eat. It drinks lots of water, though. It also doesn't run around at all. Pretty much just sits there.

Does it sit there looking up at the sky all the time? Ive noted with my Leos, when a baby does that its pretty much doomed... The "Sky Gazing" is a death warrent among Leos. :( Not so sure about Beardies. Hes a cutie, hope he makes it!!

Yeah, but usually with Beardies that's a sign of health. They "stand up" high like that. It's a good thing.
When they lay flat is when you worry... :)

one of mine didn't want to eat and i had to 'force-feed' it a few times, but then it is older than this little guy. they have bearded dragon bites by nature zone they look like little cubes of bologna. i had one of those seranges(can't spell that word - the thingy you get shots with) and put them in there, cut the tip of and squeezed slowly and only a little (didn't want to blow it's tummy up).
i also used waxworm (since they are soft), pryed it's little mouth open with the tip of my thumbnail and stuck the waxworm in it's mouth.
but as mentioned before...my dragon was a few month old.
i had 3, lost one, so i force fed the one that wouldn't eat - now he is doing fine.
don't know if it would work for one this little tho

I'm so afraid to force feed him. He's so tiny!!! Man, trying to save a little guy sure gets you attached to them. :(

You can try finding a vet that has some experience with beardies and ask for some advice? Its always a thought.

Got my beardie when he was about a couple months old. We had an earlier incident where a desert igauna got a mite infestation and he couldn't be saved, so my husband and I were hesitant about gettiing another lizard at all. But my husband researched the beardies and we thought we would try. Now we absolutely love them and "Dracu" is growing very nicely. I have a question though, what is the incidence as far as disease with beardies?

Here are some pictures of "Dracu"

Laura,
beardies are fairly hardy as long as you can keep their enclosure temps up and feed them properly. I have a beardie that I got when it was a tiny hatchling and it is going on 10 years old. he just about falls over when moving around in his enclosure but still has a good appetite. he no longer climbs any of the resin "trees" like he used to be able to though. I have lost several lizards to old age recently, a large male green iguana that was at least 10 years old and a long term WC tokay gecko that I had well over 10 years and it was an adult when I got it so no telling how old it was.

I hope to keep Dracu a long time, I have really gotten attached to him. He's so good about being held. I make sure I feed him everything that has been recommended for beardies. He prefers crickets though and he is always looking for more.
