wow , thats a great sequence of photos, how long did it take from first pic to last? I knew they were soft right after molts, but didnt realize they were so white until they hardened.

B. smithi...

I have witnessed hundreds of molts over many moons and it never ceases to amaze me how this rite of passage ensues smoothly.
What kind of plants do you have in there? Are they silk? Just curious.

They are just aquarium plants from the pet store. I have them in most of my tanks.

It took him about six hours from start to finish. It was awesome watching the entire process. He molted right up against the glass behind his plant so I turned the tank around once he was flipped over. It was great, I took a ton of pictures. The very last picture is from a few days later after he had hardened up a bit. The only downside is that I sexed him as a male from the molt. Bummer. I knew there was a reason he was growing so fast!

Nice molt pics. You sat there and watched for 6 hours!? My L striatus took 12 hours to molt but I didn't watch the hole process.

did it not bother him after he flipped and you turned the aquarium around?

Nope, didn't bother him at all. I turned it so slowly and gently that he didn't even notice. I didn't sit and watch the entire process, but most of it. It was my first opportunity to do so, so I wasn't going to miss it! I tell ya, my legs sure fell asleep sitting there with my camera for so long!
