No I bought this one at this size, but I had one from 1/4" to about 2-1/2" and I would say it grew a little faster than my other brachys have, We won't go to much in to detail about what happened to the sling but lets just say my cat came with in a hair of a trip out the second story window

I just got an Aphonopelma anax sling (~ 3/4" LS), so I was looking at pix on Rick West's Site and the pix of A. anax and B. ruhnaui on there look a lot alike? :? Am I missing something?

They do look very similar. Having never seen B. ruhnaui in person and just going by these photos I can see a few superficial differences. The carapace shape is a bit different in each species with the A. anax having a more domed shape around the ocular tubercle (what's that called??? ) and a more prominent fovea. The chelicerae also seem to be smaller in the B. ruhnaui than the A. anax. I think the biggest difference would be the urticating setae types each species has and spermathecae. Then again, I'm just guessin'.

I'd like to find an A. anax like that though. Po' mans B. ruhnaui. :D

Yep, I know what you mean. My anax sling was $5, and the same dealer had the B. ruhnaui slings available for $50.00 at about the same size! (ok, there's 1/4" size difference from what's listed, but my sling is 1/2" bigger than listed...) Of course, from what I've heard about Aphonopelma sp., I'll be 35 or so before I have a hint of those colors! {D

I was thinking that there must be some physiological differences that weren't easily visible in the pics, I was just surprised that they look so similar at first glance. :)

Nobody quote me on this, but I believe the biggest difference in color between the two species mentioned is that A. anax fades to an almost all brown relatively soon (a couple of months) after molting, while B. ruhnaui retains the coloration.
