At first thought it was female but now leaning towards a male, once those hooks and gloves apear he is off to breed, if I can find someone with a femaleBlkCat said:I love the contast of color! Very pretty. Is it male or female? Knowing u.... It will be bred as soon as possible. ;P
They are even nicer looking in person starzzzW W!!! I'm suddenly starting to understand the interest in this species!
No I bought this one at this size, but I had one from 1/4" to about 2-1/2" and I would say it grew a little faster than my other brachys have, We won't go to much in to detail about what happened to the sling but lets just say my cat came with in a hair of a trip out the second story window :evil:David_F said:Very nice T. Did you raise it from a s'ling? What is the growth rate like for this species?

They do look very similar. Having never seen B. ruhnaui in person and just going by these photos I can see a few superficial differences. The carapace shape is a bit different in each species with the A. anax having a more domed shape around the ocular tubercle (what's that called???starzzzcollide said:I just got an Aphonopelma anax sling (~ 3/4" LS), so I was looking at pix on Rick West's Site and the pix of A. anax and B. ruhnaui on there look a lot alike? :? Am I missing something?
Yep, I know what you mean. My anax sling was $5, and the same dealer had the B. ruhnaui slings available for $50.00 at about the same size!I'd like to find an A. anax like that though. Po' mans B. ruhnaui.![]()
