I have about 3000 of these and I was hoping to see everyones setup that they keep them in and how they get the eggs out thanks
...or don't keep them at all since they are a pest specie (officially, a nuisance specie, but still the same).I hear a lot of people keep that species in their basements and kitchens.
Woah woah woah! I just spent the last month taking my mom into letting me have a colony of B.lateralis, got them two days ago, and NOW I hear they're a nuisance sp!? Why didn't I hear about this in my formal posts; before I ordered them? Would they still be considered a pest in Wisconsin? I thought they were a tropical species that couldn't become a plauge unless conditions were right. Please give me some more info. I just keep mines in a plastic container, no substrate. At the end of each week, i pick out the eggs and throw them in a small container with moist peat moss. I'm not sure on how long they take to hatch but ever since I've been dong this they keep popping out ever 2-3days.I just received some and how do you keep them?
And what temperture is best for them?
Also what does their babies look like? Just so i will know what to look for.
I'm not sure of the weather in Wisconsin but I bought a couple dozen being that I can buy them like crickets at my LPS and threw them in a smooth plastic container with no heat (room temp 70-80), no substrate, humidity from only food and I now after a few months have hundreds of them. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that these could infest or at least stick around for quite a while...maybe not to the extent of the american and german roaches but definitely one to be careful with. Because the majority override the minority. Talk to alot of the big name roach breeders (for example Orin, Xelda from bugchick.com, etc.) who use to keep them and got rid of them. Ask them why and their responses will scare you....NOW I hear they're a nuisance sp!? Why didn't I hear about this in my formal posts;
