This is my female Brachypelma klassi, that i raised from a s'ling. She molted today, but for some strange reason attempted to molt right side up.(rather then upside down like she should.) Why would she do this? She never did this before. luckey for me i saw her before i left for work this morning. She had popped her carapace and started to pull out,but appeared to be stuck. I picked her up and turned her over hoping this would help rather than cause more damage. I came home later in the day to find she got out ok. At least she seems to be ok. Here she is.

WOW! Now those pics definitely show why B. klaasi is number one on my wish list!! As for flipping over your tarantula in mid-molt... I'm not sure that is safe for the tarantula but I'm glad it turned out ok. I saw an adult A. avicularia molt that way at the pet store. I sexed the molt when it was through. Turned out to be a female and I bought her and took her home a week later. She's quite the sexpot too, I might add. ;)

She's about 5 inches now, maybe a little larger streched out. :)

You did exactly the right thing, IME. I did the opposite with a T. blondi and lost it. Gently turning it over shouldn't harm it.

I'm not sure this proves anything because T. blondi are notoriously bad molters. All the advice I've ever heard is to give tarantulas space during their molts. They are extremely fragile and vulnerable until the harden up and the molting experience already seems strenuous enough. Obviously, your tarantula turned out okay with you flipping it over, mine turned out okay on her own. I'd say you'd have to weigh your chances but I personally wouldn't risk moving a spider in mid-molt. I imagine they know what they're doing most of the time. ;)

That was the only bad molt I've personally seen with Theraphosa. I go with the "turn it over" view as a result of a lot of other opinions, including Bob Breene's. In spiderlings, I don't worry much about what position they molt in, but with larger spiders I think the risk of turning them is less than the risk of leaving them upright. If mine knew what it was doing, then it committed suicide. ;)

Well, that is the nicest picture of B. klassi that I have ever seen! Does it normally look so red or is that a result of being freshly molted and/or a result of the picture? They normally look kind of rusty in color to me. I am going to have to debate as to whether or not I want this on my wish list or not. Hmmm...

Don't know why, was it out int he open space? Just a week ago, my E.Pachypus moulted 'upright' too. I've seen my pokie moult in various positions, I don't think it's too much of a problem anyway

I wouldn't touch the spider though... I know my advice is too late anyway.

They are a little nervous. I don't handle my female but she freaks out when ever I open her container. They are a must for anyones collection.

The mexican Pink is the comman name for this spider. Also I believe that i spelt B. klassi wrong, as it should be B. klaasi, like kellygirl had it. I dont know how to edit the name of a thread though. I had this spider for about 5 years now, and i got it as a microscopic s'ling.
Also most of the pics on the internet dont seem to show there true colors. Although this one is fresh molted, i cant say that it fades much after time. They realy are one of the prettiest Brachy's.

I have three small B. klaasi slings, and the one that molted most recently, molted upright also. It had me worried, but it made it, and was fine. I can't wait until they start getting their adult coloration, but I will have to be patient.

I have been looking for a good deal on one of these for a few weeks now, Pretty hard to find them but I did and I think it is a pretty good deal so I am going to pick it up tomorrow along with a few others, Will bring my collection up to around 20 but it will be my first Brachy. Also getting a curly and flame knee so I should say first three Brachy's. Also thinking a flagstaff orange or maybe a pink zebra?
