Can anybody tell me what kind of bird it is?
I've found it just today on the parking lot - it was looking like going to die soon.
Took it home and after few hours in warm it moves fast, scratching the fence in terrarium with the beak - have no cage for him/her.
What do you think - should I free him or keep for the winter?
What stuff he will eat?

Cute! But I don't know what it is. Maybe you should look out for fleas or other things that can infest wild birds...

It looks like a wild canary however I am not into small birds so I can't be certain. If you are going to keep it I reccomend you keep it hush as keepin native animals here in Canada is technically illegal. If you are not going to keep it I reccomend you take it to your local animal control and they can tell you what species it is(most likely at the loss of the specimen)

bird

It is a canary. They eat canary food like grains, safflour seeds - It is a good idea to find out if it is legal to keep, it would suck to get into trouble for saving it's life! We sell captive bred canarys for $20 or so wholesale - so you saved 20 to 40 dollars! If it is a male, then he will be an awesome singer! That is the one way that I have heard to sex them.

Females can make sound too though so don't let this be confused with singing, and also a male that has gone through trauma like this may not sing for some time. If it is male and it does choose to sing it is amazing the range and length they go for without any apparent breath. You'll know it after the third day or so when you just can't wait for it to shut up so your headache can subside lol.

I also noticed in the pictures that is sitting on your finger! If you have not seen these birds in the wild where you are, and it is tame enuf to be handled, it is possible that it was somebodys pet. The 'headache' thing is SO true! At night though make sure you cover the enclosure with a sheet or something to let the bird know it is time to sleep, and then in the morning take the cover off, and after awhile if he does decide to sing, then that is when he'll start. Good luck!

Id personally take it to a wildlife rescue where they will be able to identify it- thus being able to give it the food it needs, and possibly rehabilitate it. Birds cannot go for very long without food/water- so the sooner the better.

If you cant get it there tonight- keep it warm and out of drafts. If possibly put a low wattage infarred heat lamp on it. Foods like finchseed, canary seed, spray millet, and crickets/mealworms can all be offered. Soft bill foods might also be a good thing to try.

Thanks Guys/Gals!
Will try to find a cage for him tomorrow.
As for today he eats one cricket and medium superworm and looks to be happy.
If he'll get well will set him on balcony to let him go free.
I don't pretty much care if it's legal or not to keep him home ... anyway, he was about to die if not from the cold weather, some cats would show the interest sooner or later.

It's great that you care for him so much, but what you need to understand is that Wildlife Rescues could do a far better job at seeing to it that he gets what he needs. There may be something going on with him that you may not notice that they could find. It's not a matter of whether it's legal or not, it's a matter of getting him better and set free. He may need antibiotics/a special diet. You never know. Ive found wild birds incredibly hard to get back to good health, so ive stopped trying and I just call the Wildlife Rehabiliators now instead. Most of them just die no matter what I try to do for them. They are very fragile.
This bird looks old enough to care for himself, and if you found him on the ground near death, with no broken wings or external injuries, chances are it's internal.
Birds are INCREDIBLY good at hiding any weakness until the last minutes of life, then it is too late. They are known to spring back to life when "danger" presents itself, only to die later.

It looks like a female goldfinch to me. And since you are in Canada that is probly what it is. Take it to a wildlife shelter. It is against the law to keep and is a 10,000. fine and or up to a year in jail if you get caught with it. Good luck!

Oh and i forgot to mention. It probly got clawed by a cat and has a small injury that you can not see. If that is the case it will need antibiotics to survive. Even if the injury is not life threatening it with become infected by the bacteria on the cats claws or mouth.

Warbler

You've found yourself a warbler there, possibly a pine warbler. Since breeding season is long over, I believe this to be either a young bird (fledged this year) or a female, as the males' colors are more vivid. :)

How's she/he doing? They love to eat mealworms, but perhaps it's best to set him free after a good meal and a good night's sleep. (Or take him to knowledgable professionals. ;) )
