So, i recently purchased a Brachypelma hamorii, or so i thought. After reading the invoice today out of excitement of the arrival i realized i have a boehmei coming instead. Not really a big deal, my wife really liked the look of these anyways. But i am curious, other than color, are they any different?

The husbandry is the same. In my opinion, the B. boehmei is the most beautiful Brachypelma, but on average, they are also more likely to kick hairs when disturbed. However, individual specimens can have their own behaviors, so you won't know until you get familiar with yours.

My boehmei hasn't kicked hairs yet, but I've only had it a couple months. He does bolt around nervously when I open his enclosure, but he's never tried to bolt out. Just bolts to a hiding place, under some moss or under his cork bark. He threw a tiny little threat pose at a cricket once, which was the most adorable thing ever. Until he thumped the ground. That just made me laugh. I doubt he's even an inch DLS yet.

I've heard that they are more likely to give threat poses and kick hairs than the hamorii. I wasn't planning to handle him though, so to me it just sounded like I'd be more likely to see some of these interesting behaviors.

My boehmei sling is feisty. Always throwing threat displays whenever I deal with it. My hamorii juvie Grumps likes to kick hairs and my hamorii sling is scared of everything!

I have a girl that is close to 4 inches. Never seen a threat display out of her, but she does kick hairs sometimes when I open the lid of her enclosure to feed or water her. Not a big deal, just use tongs and keep your face out of the enclosure.

Huge difference in temperment. Boehmei are hands down the biggest flickers of this genus among the most commonly kept. I should know, I had both. I'd place a cricket in there, through a feeding door and she would flick. They are gorgeous, get large, but too flicky for me to get another.

And she'd pull threat displays at times. Hamorii- never.

Apart from albiceps, none of my Brachys (I have all of them except baumgarteni) have ever kicked hairs tbh. Generally speaking, boehmei are a little more skittish, my hamorii is an absolute nutcase though.

Generally, as you have read above and with which I am in complete agreement as a keeper of both, you’re going to receive a gorgeous (eventually) spider. Be happy, and order a hamorii as soon as possible.

More skittish, but just as attractive. A bit faster growing too.

I've seen the Dark Den's boehmei and it is a massive kicker compared to most of his other Brachy's, but having zero access to them I can't really vouch for that being an overall characteristic of the species

Both beautiful, but this one has the slight edge IMO

Super docile, not a hair kicker, and doesnt even seem to get stressed at all during situations when others would. Super happy I was able to find an already grown female

I’m your crazy hamorii’s biggest fan. Tell her I’m thinking about her, please.
