SWEEEEET!

I've got 24 immature B. fusca, and I can't wait for them to mature. The adults I saw at the show looked almost as big as giganteus. :D

it's so very cute... and wiggly! :) I love that soggy phase all shedding bugs go through, it's adorable.

Crapdammit, it's dead. I went to check on it today and its wings didn't continue to unfold, and it's still white. I picked it up, and nothing. Grr.

Suck! :( I wasn't aware roaches had that much difficulty molting.

Normally they don't....this is the first time I've ever had an unsuccessful molt with ANY of my hundreds of roaches. It just sucks that it was one of my 4 (3 now :( ) giganteus.

I am fairly certain the one that died was a male, and I have 2 females and a male left....but the one that died was the only matured giganteus. I wonder if the fusca hybrids played a hand in his undoing....I mean he wasn't torn up or anything, just dead.

no, if there is no external physical damage then i don't think that they had anything to do with it.
wait... you have the B. giganteous mix in with the fuscas? they are going to hybridize. if you keep your B. giganteous blood line pure, they will have more value and they'll keep their larger size.
anyway, at least you didn't lose a female and still have a male to breed them with, so you're still good.
can't wait till mine mature. hopefully in about 1-2 months.

Yeah, I am worried about them hybridizing, so once they were mature I was going to remove them, but this guy didn't even make it past the hardening stage. Hopefully the others will live.

You might need to up the humidity or make sure they are getting enough liquid in their food.(veggies/fruit anyone?)

Thanks everyone, I added some upright areas for them to sit, so hopefully that helps. Dtknow, I give them apples and dogfood, along with water gel at all times, so I don't think liquid and humidity are a problem. I am hoping it was just a fluke, but we will see.

Very nice setup Kyuzo, since I only have 3 I will be using a small tank, probably like 2 1/2 gallon or something, as for the oak leaves....I thought only certain species needed those...like the hissers or rhino or something?

Yea, it's true that rhino and hissers eat them, but i noticed that my other roaches also eat them. So i'll add them to the tank to get that natural look and also as a supplement for those that want to eat it.
