I am one week into the hobby and have a question about my B. Emilia. You know those quarter machines at the front of pretty much every big store (the ones your kids bug you to get them something from)? Anyways, I have a tiny 49ers (favorite team) mug that I have had for years. I have it in my B. Emilias cages for it's hiding spot. Well I went to check on all my T's today and my B. Emilia is in the mug and has pulled the substrate up and completely covered the entrance. Is there a reason they do this (like preparing to molt maybe), or is it a normal thing to do with no real reasoning behind it?

This is perfectly normal premolt behavior. My B. smithi, among others, does this when she goes into premolt. You may not see your T for a minute, but when you see it next.......yeah, it will be pretty spectacular for you!!!!

Good luck!!!!

You have me pretty excited now. Right now it is about .75". It just ate two days ago, so I am okay with not seeing it for awhile. I will just leave it's cage alone for the next week other than refilling the pop cap if it needs it. Should i mist the cage or no? I will also take some photos once it comes back out (if it did molt).

Misting is not necessary. Aside from giving the enclosure a quick spike in humidity, all it really does is piss your T off to no end. What I do for my slings is lightly wet the substrate using an eyedropper.

My B emilia does this for no reason a lot of the time. Every few weeks he covers up the burrow entrance with substrate.

Yeah, there's the molt possibility, but it's also possible that it's just hanging out. They do that.

Actually at that age they are much more prone to both molting often and hiding. After a molt or two she'll be out where you can see her all the time. Wonderful species, emilia.
