My colony doesnt smell, but when i open them up to feed them to the tarantulas, the smell is awful! How come they smell so bad? Is it the insides, or a defensive smell, or are they sick? Even when i freeze them, the container smells. Any ideas?

Are you using egg cartons?

I've noticed in the past that these are what is actually smelling and changing them out really helps.

yeah i am, i will try that. It might be their food. I am feeding them the last of teh cricket gutloader and there is a lot of protein in that and from searching, people have said that protein can make them smell, at least their excrements. But its their insides that smell, the cage is fine.

I had to reread your posts carefully. You're saying that you're chopping up the discoids? Sounds like it probably would be a defensive odor then. Do you kill them before you cut them up?
