Hi all,

I have a B. craniifer colony for about one year now. I tried various things, such as substrate: cocopeat, nothing, or a dry substrate (i don't know the name but in dutch it's called "zemelen")

I think i'm going to keep them without a substrate since each of them has it's benefits.

I also tried to start a redrunner colony but i found that they were true escaping specialists, so i disposed of them rather quickly.

But I'm still curious about B. dubia's, do they breed faster then B. craniifers, is it a big difference in size?

The problem with my B. craniifers is not that they don't breed... I put around 30 adults in a 20 liter box and each week i find little nymphs in each box. But it takes so long for these nymps to grow up and become adults, i'm talking about at least 1 year... So maybe this is different with the B. dubia's?

dubia do breed faster, and the size difference isn't anything to worry about, there's not That much of a difference

Actually its a pretty large size difference. Full grown cranifer are very large and bulky, good feeders for large reptiles. Adult dubia are not as bulky and maybe an inch and a half shorter. Both species mature at a similar rate, should take them 3-4 months to become adults, you might try increasing the heat, that will make them breed more and grow faster.
