Axolotl and water chiller

Hello. I'm new axolotl owner and I was cooling for 2 weeks with frozen bottles, but it is really consuming large amount of time and sometimes nobody is home and his water can climb up to 24°C so I decided to buy a water chiller. It is now being shipped and it should take probably 3 days to deliver it. My question is: should I just lower it directly to 18°C for cooling or should I just lower it bit by a bit for days until I reach 18°C? His previous owner told me that he was doing good in 22°C (and was mostly kept in this temperature), but i would like to get it to 18°C because it is the sweet spot for keeping axolotl.

i think it should be ok at your temps just keep its tank well aerated. you might also want to becareful about dropping its temps all of a sudden. i know with fish sudden changes like that can send them into shock and kill them

@drurymercy keeps one. Its so cute. I think if she is keeping it alive, then her advice is good. She loves her animals so much she got them a hotel room.

@Brewser and @kingshockey brought up gradual. I think this is more then just logic. You don’t want to shock it. Those things are fragile. It has been used to a certain ambient temperature. Get there slowly.

U should share a pic. How big is he and how big is his tank? What color is he? Mines a wildtype. Colder is better for them. And keeping their water parameters is crucial with them! A good indicator is his gills are they curled or dull it will help u notice if he’s not doing well. Do u have testing kits for the water? I keep water jugs in my room for when I do water changes so they are the same temp as the water in his tank there are so many videos out there I can find some good links for you if u need me to

He is 3 years old. His tank is 120l. Water parameters were tested, everything should be fine but GH is bit lower than i would like, so i added limestone. His temp now is 19°C (ye I got that chiller :D) and he is eating well everyday. I bought him dimmer for light yesterday because his lights were too much bright and my room is bit dark.

I tried some beef cubes, but he would eat only half of it, but he loves frozen blisters. He always go crazy for them. Sometimes he even take a bite on my tweezers 😆.

Oh sorry I meant blood worms. I'm not native English speaker. Better to check twice before using a new word 😂.
