Getting 1.1 A. velutina
Cant find much about them here so im hoping someone has experience or knowledge about them! :) All i know is they look amazing. Also I am suspicious that they're just different color morphs or localities of another avic. This whole genus need a big clean-up!

I just keep mine like any other avic, they are a bit more "saucy" than other avics so keep an eye on them if they notice you.

Would you elaborate a bit on your saucy observation please.

I think they are another color morph/locality. However a locality could be a different subspecies, if only some DNA was involved in the cladistics process more often.

They were / are also sold as A. sp. "Isla Margerita" over here. I have a couple and they're insanely slow growers hardly getting bigger than 4". Mine are around ~2.5-3" after 2.5 years now...

My A sp Kwitara River even slower, and this is a pretty large locality once full grown!

Thanks for your replies. Anyone have any good breeding tips? I'm assuming like other avics, but maybe something should/could be done differently

Mine could be an oddball but it tries to hair or bite me about once a week and is quite curious (my braunshauseni is the same way, maybe they collaborate?) . If I open the cage it's coming over to investigate. So I have taken the approach as I do with my pamphs, feed them first and then do some cleaning.

My GBB does the same thing! I'm never sure if she's going in for the attack or just curious. And with her being such an eating machine I can't afford to assume it's only the latter.

My A brau doesn't do that, it's fairly secretive at times too.

Weird, my GBB is the opposite. She's become almost a pet hole. Most I see is tarsi sticking out of her hide unless she's on the hunt, and if I startle her, POOF, back in the tunnel.

I've never even heard of the A velutina... interesting looking avic.

They grow pretty slow too so you'll be looking at a little fuzzball for a long time. I've had mine for about 10 months now and it's about 1.75 DLS now after getting it at .5; I think my P.muticus grows faster.

In response to the original topic, have you thought about checking out the tarantula app, i think there is some information for the A. Velutina on there

Is that just an avic thing? My versi sling molts really fast but doesn't grow that much with each molt. She has molted twice in the just over two months I've had her, and she's probably only just doubled in size; she's still under an inch. On the other side I've had the GBB since March, she's molted three times, and with each molt she seems to grow half again her size; she's gone from under an inch to nearly 3" since I got her. She seems like she's in steroids compared to the versi, though she molts so much slower.

You just keep them like any other avic, only difference I've seen is that they are slower growers and can be more defensive than some of the more common species. They might need different seasonal cues for mating but at this point we are just talking about taking care of them.

My versi has always gained a lot of size per molt and does it often, when I say they[velutina] grow slow I mean they don't molt too often for me but when they do I do notice it.

No. Some Avics grow quite speedy and some are significantly slower than others.

My versicolors (2) were both males, and ate well and grew from 2i to MM at just over or about 4" in just over a year.

My urticans were both 1" in December and are now over 4"...great eaters and grew faster than the versi.

I think there are many species of Avics that do grow pretty darn slow....A. avic is always mentioned as being slow.

CEC told me A purpurea grow slowly, well I have a A sp Kwitara River I received in March 2013, I have a few different Avics that are full year younger than it, and all have surpassed this specimen in size in less than a year. Now those may be males, but even my much younger A purp, is now larger than my A sp Kwitara River. I've never seen a slower growing Avic so far.

That is true, but they're one of the smaller Avics.
Yep, but sp Kwitara River isn't and mine grows the slowest of all Avics I've owned.

And minatrix is smaller than purp and it grows much faster than purp.

So far my A. sp blue velvet is the slowest grower, at 4th instar and still around an 1.25"
Same feeding schedule as the rest of my Avics, went from 2nd instar to 4th since 5/8/15

Never heard of any app. What is it called? Is it any good?
