The color.

Actually it's quite possible they're not even the same species but the taxonomy hasn't caught up yet. There's also quite a bit of color variation in Avics relative to an individual's proximity to a molt, plus the possibility of local color variants within the species. So... it's complicated, opinions differ and not everyone agrees. Welcome to the hobby, lol.

When you say different color, do you mean a different green than the normal green that a A. Metallica would be? Every A. Metallica I have seen has been green.

There are some strains of (suspected) A. metallica with a much more prominent green hue than is typical. Instead of cocking your head to the side and saying "That black spider looks kinda green at this angle." it just looks really green at first glance. Try googling it, you'll see the difference. Of course it could all be tricks of the flash or whatever, I've never seen one in person.

thx for the input moltar. i can put pics up when my A. metallica green form gets to be a juvy and then adult but i have awhile to wait. it is only a 1/2 sling right now. just the anticipation of seeing the difference in the metallica's will be worth the wait.

Heh, yours is the same size as mine. Does your green form also have the pink legs with black socks?

yes it does. I think its pretty funny to watch it trying to climb on the side of the vial. all u see r lil black socks flinging about. I have a piece of bark in its vial which it has webbed to quite a bit but for some reason likes to climb on the glass. btw, does urs have trouble eating? mine will eat half a pinhead cricket and just leave the rest for me to clean up. I tried giving it a nice cricket leg but it refuses it but throw a whole pinhead and it will go to town.

Nope, mine is eatting the whole thing. But I have to get it food because the crickets my girl came home with today are a bit to big. I put one in the my Versicolor though and man what a beats. It jumped from it's webbing to the floor of the cage fast and snatched the cricket up then carried it back to it's webbing up in the leaves. The cricket was just as big as him. He (or she I hope) is 1". Actually now that I think about it, my A. Metallica is a pig. It ate two crickets the last two times I fed it.

i wish mine would eat like that but over time i sure it will. its kinda funny that i have an A. metallica the same size as urs and an A.versicolor also at the same size and it eats like a pig. as soon as i put a cricket in there it is attacked very quickly. one thing that is weird is it will bite it, then put some webbing on it, waits till it stops moving , and then eats it. very neat to watch...that is for sure. btw, what size container do u have ur avics in and what kind of enviroment to u put in there for them?

Yeah, my Versi did that today. When it took the cricket that was just as big as itself, it took it into it's web tunnel and kept sitting it in the web, spread some web, pick it up and move it, then drop it and web some more. It kept munching on it until I changed it to it's new home. I hated destroying it's webbing, but it's new container is a lot better. It was in a 4"x4"x4" container. Now it is in a plastic jar that is 2" in diameter and 6" tall. Putting my A. Metallica in the same container soon. It is in one of the tall jars on this page with the paper removed and the glue that held it. http://www.pouncetreats.com/moist.htm I have a cat, so I kill two birds with one stone.

I just got 2 A. metallica 'Greens". They are only 3/8"-1/2" now. One reason I bought them was to see what they grew up to look like.
