Awhile back I got this T at a local reptile store and it was mislabeled as a purple pink toe. I thought I was getting a Purpurea (I ended up finding some and got two) but I got this little Avicularia Juruensis one instead and I couldn’t be happier! It has a really good eating response so far. It’s molted once since I got it.

Although this is an Avicularia Jurunesis, I find that it actually to live closer to the bottom of his enclosure. At first he made a dirt tunnel. After his first molt with me he started to climb more and perch on top of the plants I put in the enclosure.

Mostly posting this because I didn’t see a lot of info on this particular spider. I will occasionally post updates to this thread if anyone cares lol.

More clutter at the top will help your Tarantula to settle in.

Buying tarantulas at a reptile store, usually not a great idea. Mislabeling is common

Well I’m still pretty new to the hobby and I was much newer when I got it so I know better now. Thanks. We all have to make mistakes to learn.

Glad to help out.
Many of us that have been here a long time have seen some people buying multiple Tarantulas from a reptile store and complain they were mislabeled each time. One person had done it like 3-4 times and still kept going back to buy misidentified tarantulas.

Best of luck with the little one

Really great species. :) They develop very nicely into purple with yellow banding down their legs with a bright red red abdomen to boot.

I wouldn't really consider that a mislabel since it's a worthless common name that has been applied to both. Actually, "Purple Pink Toe" better describes hobby juruensis M#2. They are quite purple and have the classic Avic. pink toes. A. purpurea are purple but lack the pink toes Avics are known for. 💁‍♂️

that’s actually true now that you mention it! But oh well. Now I have both of the purple ones.

Thanks for posting this finding more info can be difficult! It looks like you found a purpurea is that it next to juruensis M2? Also is this the same as Peru purple? I bought one today labeled “Avic Peru Purple”

You may want to post a picture in the identifications picture section or also make your own separate thread, you may get a better response. The Aviculariua juruensis M#2 is sometimes called Peruvian Pink Toe. But there is also one sometimes refereed to as Avicularia sp. Peru purple. It is hard to say as the common names are extremely messy for Avicularia's. Best to post a picture for us to try and get an Id if possible for you. Is it a sling or Juv/adult? Where did you get it from? Was there no scientific name attached to it when you bought it??

I’ll make a new thread but also reply in here too. Mine is a sling and I got it from a local reptile shop. They had got in 2 new avics. One labeled AvicSp pucallpa which I’m assumed is M1 green bronze tones. The second Avic was labeled only as “Avic sp. Peru Purple” and that was the one I picked up. No scientific names. Was trying to learn more about the one I picked up but have found limited info
I’m not sure I can’t tell what you have... but word of advice in the future don’t buy tarantulas from reptile shops, buy from tarantula specialized people like people selling here on AB that way you can be secure in knowing what species you actually have!

Yes... The Avic. species collected in Iquitos, Peru was given the name Avicularia "sp. Peru Purple". These were sold under that name for many years untill the publication of the Avicularia revision. Many hobbyists assumed sp. Peru Purple were likely the same as another Avic being sold under the name "urticans" because most of the them sold in the US hobby were identical nor is it rare for an Avicularia sp. to be sold under different names. This particular assumption of these two being one and the same was in my eyes confirmed in Fukushima and Bertani 2017 through description, locality and pics. They consider urticans a junior synonym of juruensis (specifically morphotype #2).
Also hobby sp. Pucallpa is a variant of juruensis M#1, again because they match the morphological description, Pucallpa, Peru is a known locality & the pics match what I know to be "sp. Pucallpa".

I know this thread is a little old. But I was just wondering how the sling is doing now and do you have any tips raising a sling.
