Hi there,
Hope someone can help. I just now unboxed my Pink Toe T. She is about 3". She is very lethargic and doesn't want to come off the paper towel she came in. She is not wrapped in it, just sitting there on the towel in her enclosure. I will attach a photo. 20220401_110411.jpg

It’s not a very good photo. I can’t really see anything, but tarantulas can be a little lethargic after shipping. Could you get a clear picture of the spider and maybe a better shot of your enclosure overall, too?

OMG so floofy 😻 she looks ok ( not dead) so I would just place her in the enclosure and check on her in awhile. You can overflow that dish to moisten part of the substrate, just let it dry out before you do it again. The humidity might be good for her rn.

Thank you so much!!! That is reassuring 🥰
You’re welcome. That is really a gorgeous spider! Just a note on the enclosure, hopefully she’ll web up between the bark and leaves but mine have always gone straight to the top. You might damage her web when you open it if she does that, one solution would be to move some of those leaves higher- or you could lose the substrate and turn the whole thing upside down, that way the opening is on the bottom

Awesome looking enclosure. Is that a cheese ball container?

It is normal for them to sit like that after opening the shipping container. She should be active after a few hours.

Yes it is the Utz Cheese Ball container from Walmart. Would you believe it is larger than most Arboreal enclosures? I think it was $6.99. We put plenty of holes for cross ventilation.

I sure appreciate all of you and the time you took to give me some needed advice 🥰

Yep, nice enclosure for that spider - and cost effective! It may not move much today, but by tomorrow morning I'm sure it'll have come out to explore. They're nocturnal, so it'll feel safer moving around in the dark. If you're able to dim the lights in the room where it is, you might be able to accelerate that.

Just gently push it off the paper towel...avics are particularly stubborn.

If this is your first tarantula enclosure or first Aviculariinae enclosure, just want to say you did far better than most people ever do who come here for advice! So good job on that! Usually there’s something we have to tell people to change, but not this time. 👍

I saw mention of humidity and I gotta mention, completely disregard the entire concept of humidity for your Avicularia avicularia or in time you could kill it. Just keep the water dish full and the substrate dry and when it has webbing moisten part of the webbing my administering droplets of water for it to drink occasionally and not misting.
