His butt's gone a bit bald, and he's been a bit more subdued than usual. But I only got him two weeks ago and he ate maybe 3 days ago so I'm not sure? Sorry about the photo quality, I'm still trying to work out the best way to take pictures with the glare from the tank.

He probably just accidentally rubbed it off I wouldn’t worry much but it say yes it’s close to premolt. Is the abdomen dark & shiny ?✨

Mh... id say darker than lighter, but not terribly shiny yet.
Haha yeah, I gave him a gummy worm a few days ago and I miss judged the size 🫣 he grabbed it just as i realized it was too big. We're gonna diet for a bit after that mistake.

Maybe

Pre-molt questions exactly like yours are by the BILLIONS. Search the forum to get an idea

I don’t worry if a T is in premolt or not. They are ALWAYS moving towards molting.

I appreciate it! I've seen a lot of avic premolt post but I'm still kinda confused, especially with the whole "balding but avics don't kick" thing? ^^;; he's my first T so I'm a bit anxious about everything lol but I'll try not to worry so much

Yeah that’s my first thought when people handle these animals like , it doesn’t want held leave it alone …. Avics Poop 💩 cannon proves it scientifically.
Omg yeah, I'm not strictly anti-handling (I haven't done enough research to have a solid opinion one way or the other) but I don't think i would ever intentionally handle my Avic. Too poopy, too bolty.

Thank you for this!

Do you mind if I ask why avics lose hair before a molt? My understanding for terrestrial species is that they kick to form a defense around their web nest thing, but avics have type 2 urticating hair and they make themselves little hammocks, right? Do they like get itchy from getting tight and scratch them off?

Not sure what you’re confused about

Not all Ts in captivity release setae, a specimen might do it a lot before one molt, next not so much that it’s not noticeable
