Reading the forum I believe I may have made a mistake, I took my T out of her encloser to wash & clean the enclosure (which I will now do twice a year). She is a pink toe it a not a juvenile but not a sling. I am concerned about the size of her encloser I will post a pic tonight of her habit. She was webbing but silly me I cleaned it. I also wanted to know it she will burrow

Cleaning the terrarium is no need to. Maybe wipe the glass somtimes if dirty. The less one disturbs the tarantula rhe better! Why did you feel like cleanig the terrarium?

You never have to change the substrate or anything like that! I have terrarium where i have the same substrate as when i put the spider in.....7-8 years ago!

Substrate will not get bad by age!

I agree with the above advice, you really shouldn't have to clean out your enclosures - the less you can disturb a T and their burrows/webs/etc, the better.

I am new to T's, I have always found them very sexy. I thought the enclosure was a little messy, after research, it was webbing I completely disturbed her habitat. I hope I did put her is a shock.

@EmpressVia If you're concerned about enclosure size, perhaps try making a new thread under "Tarantula Questions & Discussions" with some photos so that more of us can help you. This is a bit of an old thread to be reviving. :oldman:;) But I agree with the above advice, you really shouldn't have to clean out your enclosures - the less you can disturb a T and their burrows/webs/etc, the better.

Agreed, t enclosures never need deep cleaning and never need substrate changed. Ts are not dirty critters, cleaning is done by spot cleaning any bolus you find or uneaten prey. Twice a year is just forcing the t to re adapt and build a new home.

Avics are arboreal, they should NEVER burrow...they build web homes at elevated positions...in fact, just being on the ground is a huge red flag.

When you post a pic, i suggest starting your own thread instead of piggybacking a 10 year old dead thread.

Proper housing is critical for avics.

Greetings

This is a follow up to an earlier discussion, i changed her habitat (removed webbing called myself cleanin up). I now this was a huge error. She is still on the ground.
Is her habitat the size.?Should it be larger? I appreciate the feedback

If that’s the full height of the enclosure then it needs to be taller.
I’d go to pet smart or somewhere similar and get those plastic green leafy vines for like 5$ (come with suction cup for sticking to glass)
I just pull pieces off an hot glue them up near the top.

Is the T in premolt???

Do u know exactly how long the spider is??
Most people will advise against a glass tank(im assuming u mean standing up in its end with the top facing you) bc they don’t provide cross ventilation.

I personally went to Walmart and got I think 1 gallon jugs and I have most of my airboreals in them. I’ll post a pic

A cork bark slab at the back is probably best so they have a dark spot to hide right away.
Some people will say that the container is too big for a 2-3” spider but I watch mine almost daily and make sure they’re eating and I haven’t had any issues 6D1CED0B-E0D3-4EC9-A019-573E5692C4CB.jpeg 48188265-3581-45C0-8B23-FA9F33121728.jpeg 870DAFAC-5FEB-4D1F-881B-CE1AE854E33A.jpeg F3325ECA-4964-45E3-9BA4-571AA5B633B2.jpeg

Ok. I was thinking something along that route.
