I was thinking about getting a versi, specifically a 2.5" juvi for 60 bucks. I was wondering if someone could give me basic info on them like how long they live, also any basic care info would be great.

60 dollars is expensive, I got mine for 30 euros(thats 44 dollars) for same size as yours+it was garanteed female.

What is to tell. They are tree dwelling birdeaters from Martinique and surrounding, they grow up to 13-15 cm(5-6 inches). They are calm and docile but they can run really fast if spooked, if scared they will flee instead of defend or attack. They mature in 3-4 years from spiderlings, females can live 12+ years.

Since they are arboreals, they need more height than floor space. It is nice if you give them nice bark backdrop and lots of braches and leaves where they can atach their web and they make amazing webs if you provide them enough of branches or leaves, they are very oftenly incorporating leaves and substrate into their webs.

They need same temperature as any other birdeater, humidity going from 74-80%. Also with all of the stuff in you should put in a big shallow water dish.

i have seen some versi go for much more than that i dont think it is over priced, most spiderlings are 30 bucks and 1.5 inches are like 50

Like I said, it is overprised, especially if you don't know the gender of the spider. Gender makes lot of diffrence.

I spent $30 for each of my versicolor slings. Imo, $60 for a female isn't bad?

This is the best way to find out more information on common species. ;)

They must be significantly cheaper in Europe...jealous.

C C, here's a care sheet. I think female Avics can live up to 10 years, males much less (they mature relatively quickly).

thanks for the link  The only issue is the cage and I think putting the KK on its side is ugly :barf: :D

Yeah I guess they are cheaper since you can get P. metallica sling here for 55 euros(80 dollars. :)

I agree. You can get creative with enclosures, though...go to the Container Store and fine any appropriately sized vertically-oriented container, drill some small ventilation holes in it, and voila. There's a lot to choose from. Once they reach subadult or adult size, I like to invest in something nicer (i.e. tarantulacages.com tanks, Exo Terra or Zoo Med).

I HATE YOU :evil::evil::evil: lol jk
I got an A. versicolor last week from Paul at Petcenter usa, she was 1.5" but has already moulted to around 2", she was only $35

http://petcenter.info/petcenterstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=690

I did have the advantage of being able to drive locally to his facility and pick her up, so no shipping fees. He sexed her for me too. Click on my images or thread I made about her moulting to see pics. Very happy with her

Get the T if you want the T. The difference in 15 dollars over the life of the T (which if female will be 12+ years) is not giong to matter one bit three years from now. You will never look back and say "I wish I would have purchased a cheaper one." You will love the one you have and the 15-30 dollars wont make one bit of difference.

Just going to say that bumping post is kind of unnecessary. If people want to respond, they will.

He's running two different threads, one in this forum and the other in tarantula chat and they are both about what tarantula he should get next and he keeps bumping both of them. He has stated that he likes creating multiple threads because it makes him feel powerful and that he wants to get his view-count up to 1000. I think his threads are more about attention than about which spider he should get next. I know I'm not the only person getting annoyed. He's not going to get view-counts on any of his future threads if he annoys everyone to the point of putting him on ignore. I shouldn't even leave this post because it will probably just contribute to a higher view/post count.
