Hi all, it's your crazy friend itchyhands,

At what age will my psalmopoeus Cambridgei's appearance tell me it's sex? Mines approximately 7 or 8 months old now and 3 inches. It's legs practically doubled in size with it's last molt and it's got more adult coloring now. I'm worried it's a male because it's getting fuzzy and leggy. I just love her and don't want her to die young. Is it too early to tell? Here's a pic from right after her most recent molt.

Do more research

Not all male T's develop tibial hooks on the front legs when maturing. Surefire way to know is when you see the eboli on the pedipalps. They look like boxing gloves.

If you're not familiar do research by using the search feature on AB.

So is it only once they hook out and mature that the difference can be seen? I can't get a molt without her eating it and just want to know the sex :/
I got same issue too with a few Ts wish you could tell gender via looks but it’s very hard , if not impossible with some species .
I rely on molts unfortunately a lot get destroyed like yours. 🥲

P. cam is not sexually dimorphic...you will only know once it matures if its male....but prior to maturity a male is indistinguishable from a female dorsally.

I just bought a 3" male P. pulcher and it looks quite leggy compared to my female, but it's no sure tell, otherwise exactly the same.

Sexual dimorphism in Psalmopoeus is visible when a male matures else it's looking exactly the same as a female.

As previously mentioned it's not allowed to sex your species.

Ps. If you've got a photo of the tarantula before last molt and now. Then you'll know what it is ;)

Best regards,
Don

Do you think my spider is at a stage where if I posted my photo in the sexing forums people would know what it is?
