i've stopped handling it for the past 5-6 days so it's not stressed and hopefully it'll eat!

I think so but I'm not sure,

Illest: your snake will eat sooner or later, and when it eats it will never hesitate to eat again. My female ball python was like then she finally ate after like 3 weeks and now she never refuses to eat. so it's just a waiting game.

Da Illest
I had a baby sandboa that wouldnt eat..I finally got her to eat by putting her in a small butter tub with some paper towel wadded up in it to make her feel safe... I put the Pinkie (dead) onto the floor of the tub, put in snake...put papertowel over them both put on lid (with small air holes) and leave them over night in the cage. The next day the pinkie was gone and the snake had a lump =D I had to feed her this way for the first 3-4 times. Now I just put her in the tub and pop in a pinkie and she eats it and crawls out of the tub back into her substrate. Good Luck....cute snake btw. Tail looks long Id say male, but Id have to see the UNDER side of the tail....females have short stubby tails, and males have longer tails....Heck Ill show you a pic that would be easier!
The orange one is the female the black and white is the male..notice how the females tail is shorter and thicker.

Not necessarily, Sam. There are many snakes that will go off-feed during the winter, or for no apparent reason at all. Even if you provide the proper climate in their enclosure, and they are healthy, sometimes they just stop eating for a while.

*sniff*

Those pictures remind me of when my little trio was that size. Now ive got two that come in at around 14 inches, and a female thats approaching 18!!!!

They are a very hardy species.

Im sure you will have fun with them. OldHag's method should work very well for feeding your snake.

Genious_gr: yea they do eat pinks

Big sam: hope your right man!

Aidan: it was free! a gift! now how much it costs is a hole nother story.. all together i think it was 170$ for everything needed..

And OldHag: you seem to know quite a bit about these guys, so i'mma bomb you with questions if you don't mind;

1. i stopped handling it for a week as to not stress it so it'll eat tomorrow when the pinky shipment comes in, will it bite now? before it didn't..

2. how did you take a pic of the snake underside? did it struggle with you?

3. i put the snake in a plastic sweater box about a foot by half foot big with paper towl under it and a paper towel on top. then i put the live pinky on top of the paper towel turned all the lights off and left the room. about an hour later i come in and see a liquid around the pink and the pink was dead.. makaveli bit him and left him there dead?? do you think i should put him in a smaller container? what did i do wrong? not enough paper towel? i won't feed him on sand for fear of ingestion.. i didn't quite understand how you feed yours..

4. have you been bit? does it hurt? does it let go immediatly when biting or draw blood?

5. you know what make me a little nervous? when he tries to burrow into my hand, it seems like he's going to bite. and when he stops and stares at my finger for a while flicking his tongue, kinda freaky man. lol. also when i'm holding him palm up and he goes under my hand with his head rubbing it against my skin tickling me.. i now it takes some getting used to but this is my forst snake.. did this happen to you too?

5. thanks a lot if you choose to answer my annoying questions! i'm a god damn newB to snakes...

One familia, One love..
Peace out

Thats a lot of questions....Ill see If I can get them all...
1. Its probably good not to pester it until its eating really good. I dont handle mine for a day or so after eating so they dont throw up...not that they would but just to be safe.

2. I held their tails together and quickly snapped the shot...and no they didnt like it and YES they struggled with me :D

3. I put mine in a SMALL butter tub...those round plastic tubs with lids...its small and they can find the pinkie, then I wad up some paper towel and put OVER the pinkie and snake and leave over night. If it doesnt eat try again in a few days. It might just be scared. Some people put the pinkie and the snake in a snake bag and put close it up good and leave over night. (I did this with my adult for a while)

4. & 5. No I havent been bitten by a sandboa...they DO nuzzle your hand but that is just because theyre looking for a place to Burrow. NOT to bite you. They KNOW the difference between YOU and a PINKIE and theyre NOT going to eat you...unless you smell like a pinkie...but even then Ive never EVER had one bite. Ive heard of someone being bitten by a sandboa...but he was pestering it and it gave him lots of notice before it bit ie. twitching and flattening out. Ive heard that gravid females will become a bit irritable...or newborns. One female I have was supposed to be a very snappy one....I have yet to see her strike at anything besides mice.

For a first snake these are PERFECT. Very laid back docile critters. I hate being bitten too...infact its almost a phobia..lol As far as drawing blood. I think if one bit you and you jerked back causing the teeth to slice you then yes you would bleed...but if you kept your cool and let it let go of you on its own there wouldnt be too much damage.

good luck
Michelle

Sand boa bites are not bad at all.

Ive been bitten at least 10 times by mine and usually, its just a little scrape with a VERY small amount of blood. My big female hasnt bit me lately, and her teeth have grown over a millimeter.

Keep in mind they are generally docile, but with all the live feedings and the fact that I rarely hold mine, has basically turned them into monsters!

Getting bit doesnt hurt at all until snakes get fairly big. Some snakes are capable of tearing tissue and drawing tons of blood, but those start at around 10 feet I would think. Your sand boa will max out at around 2-3 feet depending on sex.

The common way of sexing KSB's is by looking for spurs. Females almost always don't have any.

Not to derail or anything, but I held my first KSB yesterday. The people at the petstore got this crazy idea of making me hold some of their animals. Well, out of all of the ones I held (Which were all pretty fiesty and had never been handled.) the KSB was the only one to bite me. And when it got me, it didn't let go. It wrapped around and just sat there. Good stuff. Thought they were supposed to be pretty docile?
