Check out our newest addition to the Price family. His name is Yudon and he is an artic fox about 10 weeks old. He is really cool, very playful, and social.

They will stay dark, its only when they turn white when it gets cold and white all over like it would get in the winter in the artic.

I dated a guy who had a fox. Not artic, just a red fox. It was cute as a baby but MEAN when it was adult.

I've had a Red Fox, which stayed very tame, but STANK worse than a fully-armed skunk! He could also out-yap any Chihuahua ever born-loved to hear himself bark! I have known a couple of people who had Arctics, though, and they were much less smelly(being stinky would NOT be a good idea when you share your territory with Polar Bears that hunt primarily by smell)and much less yappy. The main drawback is that they blow coat twice a year(well, Reds do, too, but not like an Arctic)just like a Husky or Akita or other double-coated dog, and you will be surprised at just how much hair can be on that little body! The ones I knew reminded me a lot of miniature Samoyed dogs, actually, but without the curled-up tail.

He is pretty playful right now, which is good. We are constantly playing with him to keep him socialized. His poop smells worst than any dog. His diet is mainly a really good dog food and just about any veggie or fruit they will eat. Ours tonight ate some onions, tomatoes, squash, zuchinni, snow peas, and carrots. I was making stir fry. I figured his coat would not turn white as long as we lived in Central Florida.

Peace Out,
Price

I would definately lay off the veggies, no matter how much he likes them(many puppies will eat just about anything, anyway), since I doubt very seriously that vegetables or plant matter make up any measurable part of an Arctic fox's natural diet! Red and Gray foxes, living in temperate climates, do eat quite a few fruits, but you aren't going to find these in the high Arctic where Arctic foxes are found. Their diet will consist pretty much entirely of meat or blubber scavenged from Polar bear kills. The vegetables could be contibuting to the bad smell.

What kind of dog food are you giving him, by the way? It should not contain any soy products, whatever it is, since wild and primitive canines have difficulty digesting soy and many will develope allergies to it.

He should turn white, regardless of where you live. Both Arctic foxes I knew lived here in South Carolina, and both turned white in winter. It seems to have more to do with the length of daylight rather than temperatures, since it sure is plenty hot here, and snow is a real rarity!

Last night was the first night since last week that we gave him veggies. Our breeder suggest a quarter cup of veggies a day and no more.

We have him on Solid Gold puppy food. I don't know if you can get it up there, but it is a really good dog food. I used to work for a pet store and anytime someone had a problem with their dog food we would switch them over to Solid Gold and the problem would be no more.

Here is a list of things that they do not put in the bag. No wheat, soybeans, corn, animal fat added, poultry fat, by products, sugar, artificial preservatives, salt, or sunflower oil. A few of the first ingredients of the bag. Lamb, lamb meal, millet, brown rice, menhaden fish meal, cracked pearled barley.

I hope he turns white, but I do really like the gray color too.

Peace Out,
Price

First things first, your new family member is simply B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!

I would probably avoid the whole veggies for a bit. The fiber content can often mess with their GI tract. This is probably why his poop is so stinky.

Solid Gold is awesome dog food. I've been using it the better part of ten years with excellent results. They make several different formulas so if one doesn't seem to quite jive with your new guy, you should try another. When I first got our Samoyed I was feeding him SG Hund n Flocken, but found he was still kind of gassy. We switched to SG Wolf King (Organic Bison and Wild Caught Salmon) and they have been on that ever since. We rarely ever see any GI issues.

Sounds like you are in for a little adventure. Keep us posted; I'm curious how he will be when he gets a little older.

Now that's a cutie. My girl would fall all over that one. Think I'll save the pic and show it to her. :)
