Are they a male and female?

Males have long bristles extending outward and downward from their antennae. These are visible to the naked eye but may require bright light or magnification for clarity.
Females have fewer and shorter bristles that are closer to the antennae and do not extend outward as prominently.
Size differences can sometimes help, with males being smaller than females, but this is not always reliable.

Thing 1 & Thing 2 have always looked the same to my eyes.

However according to Dr. Seuss ...
"These Things will not bite you. They want to have fun."
"Then out of the box came Thing Two and Thing One."
