Ok me again with a hissed question. Do they have signs that they will molt soon like premolt signs in Tarantulas? My hisser is getting fat but he ain’t eating is that a sign. Also, is it normal for them to be so docile I mean if you pick him from the thorax he doesn’t struggle or hiss I’ve only heard him hiss once which is when I let my toddler brother hold him (don’t worry I was watching him very closely) if you set your hands down next to him he’ll crawl right on them. If you pet him he doesn’t hide his head or even crouch I’ve never seen any bug do this before!!

Is he an adult? If he is an adult he won't molt any more after that, he is already at max size. In my experience with roaches there is very little indication they are getting ready to molt soon when they are younger, they just kinda show up as bright white one day. Really the only time I've seen a roach get really chunky after reaching adulthood is in females carrying an egg-case, because they store the entire thing in their abdomen which stretches out the segments. I'm fairly certain they can stretch the segments on their own willingly even outside of pregnant females, but this isn't something I've seen one do with any regularity.

Looks like an adult to me. With juveniles, they'll get progressively longer and longer until you can see their white roach skin between the segments. After that, they molt and then start gulping air to make themselves expand and stretch the exoskeleton. When they're done stretching, they will exhale and be stumpy again until they eat a bunch.

These guys are usually fine with room temps, but you can add a heat lamp if you'd like them to be more active.
